Why does English become important?

Assalamualaikum,

ASEAN Countries are getting prepared because ASEAN Economic Community (AEE) is coming extremely closer. Each country in this district will have been showing their own potentials in this brand new era started in December, 2015. By having The ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), like in Europe, ASEAN citizens will find it convenient to leave for and sell everything across all over the countries. Implied in this free trade, Indonesia, my beloved country, has drawn up any potentials to attract people to visit Indonesia and earn a great number of foreign exchange. However, there is the merely lack that Indonesia has not solved yet. That is inability in speaking English.

It is believed that to communicate globally, each of us must be able to speak English. No reason. People not capable of speaking this international language will make their communication among countries get stuck because I believe that we cannot understand each language from ASEAN countries. As a matter of the fact, however, that Indonesia is one of the countries in the world that has the lowest index in English Ability.

Based on the data from A World Education Institution, English First (EF),in 2011, Indonesia was in the 33^rdfrom 44 countries across the world. Those countries do not use English as their first or mother tongue. On the top of that, that data is still happening until now in my country. Facing AEC, most of us is not able to speak English, we have a great ability in business, such as in creative industry and cultural landmark promotion. As a result, what we will get later is that we cannot promote and sell any things to ASEAN countries. 

I reckon that communication is the most significant thing in this modern era. The communication will be made if we understand each other what we are talking about. This obstacle must be solved immediately. And, in this case, English ability is the one and only solution. It is an obligatory for Indonesian Citizens to able to talk in English. Just take a look Malaysia and Singapore whose citizens can speak English Fluently. They must be more ready in welcoming AEC 2015.

As an English future teacher, I must do something for this country. At least, we are capable of speaking in daily activities without overlooking our national language, Bahasa Indonesia. The aim why I have to teach English is to make people turning a finger in Creative, and Tourism and Cultural Industry be ready in facing AEC by being fluent in communicating in English. Our great potential, therefore, become the power to build this country more and more improved.
